Dear Students of SMHSroom639,
The end of the semester is upon us. It came quickly, and without regard for our preparedness. Our time is short, but not over. The learning does not, and should not, stop when you exit the door of SMHSroom639. In fact, this should not be viewed as the end, but, rather, as the beginning. I'm not trying to sound wise, or like I know something that you don't (even though I do), I'm just trying to convey to you that learning should never stop.
You never get stop getting thirsty or hungry, and you should have the same appetite for knowledge.
You should relish the opportunities to converse with those you meet.
You should relish the opportunities to converse with those you meet.
You should seek challenge.
You should face your problems, and help others solve theirs.
You should not be a know-it-all, but you should be knowledgeable.
You should write down your thoughts and ideas.
You should use spell check.
You should practice thinking.
You should share your ideas and have others tell you what they think is bogus. Then, you should explain to them why your ideas are rather good.
Oh, and you should do all of this every day, at every opportunity.
You should never be a latter-climber, but you should never be satisfied with where you are or how you are doing.
You should sacrifice and suffer for the good of others.
You should take what is yours.
You should respect yourself, your body, and your mind.
You should respect and value the ideas of others.
You should value your family (not just your blood relatives).
In a syncretic blend of Buddhist and Confucian sort-of-way, you should focus on yourself first, even if it means giving up a little pleasure now, and then use your knowledge to help those around you.
Remember, the world is bigger than just you and me.
The sun, not your girlfriend or the person in the mirror, is the center of the universe.
Santa Maria is but a spot on the map.
However, there is no reason why it can't be THE spot from which ideas and change diffuse.
We ALL have our shortcomings.
We ALL fail.
Unfortunately, only SOME of us attempt to learn from our failures.
Be one of the few who takes on life with whatever it brings.
Do it with a smile (don't look like you always smell poop).
Don't become jaded by circumstances, and don't fall prey to the rebound guy...
Most importantly, though, be yourself and be proud of who you are.
If you aren't or feel you can't be, then change to the person you CAN be proud of.
Please fill out the evaluation form here. Be honest. I won't grow as much if you're not.
Peace and love,
Markstone
