One of the greatest people to ever play baseball played his last home game ever last night, at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Mariano Rivera will go down as the greatest closer, at least of our time, and possibly ever. He'll be the last player to ever wear the number 42, the number Jackie Robinson wore when he became the first African-American to ever play in the MLB. Mariano carried that tradition, lived out the American Dream, struggled at times, but for most of his career appeared both immortal and untouchable. I just cried watching him leave the field last night. I hate the Yankees, but will never forget Mariano, his cutter, his achievements, or his character. Thanks for 18 years of greatness and broken bats.
